At DIX DIX, everything revolves around conscious luxury. With our products, we aim to make a statement. A statement for quality, sustainability, and protecting our planet. That's why we don't just choose any vegetable wax, but consciously opt for rapeseed wax. In our opinion, this wax is superior to the popular soy wax.
Soy wax: better than paraffin, but not without drawbacks
Let's be honest: soy wax is a step forward compared to paraffin. It's plant-based, burns cleaner, and lasts longer. But if you look closer, there are a few caveats:
- Import from distant lands: Soy wax is primarily produced in the US, Brazil, and Argentina. This means long transport distances and thus higher CO₂ emissions.
- Monoculture and deforestation: The massive cultivation of soy leads to the loss of biodiversity and even rainforest in some regions.
- Dependence on large-scale agriculture: Soy production is often large-scale and industrial, with little room for local farmers or sustainable farming methods.
- Limited ecological contribution: Unlike other crops, soy contributes little to the local ecosystem or biodiversity.
Rapeseed wax: the local and sustainable alternative
Rapeseed wax may not be as well-known yet, but it is a stronger choice in every respect if you truly want to go sustainable:
- Good for biodiversity: Rapeseed flowers are an important food source for bees and other insects. They bloom richly and actively contribute to the preservation of our nature.
- Local cultivation in Europe: Rapeseed is grown in many European countries. This means short supply chains, less transport, and thus a much smaller ecological footprint.
- Crop rotation: Rapeseed is often used in crop rotation, which is good for soil health and helps prevent depletion of agricultural land.
- Excellent burning quality: Rapeseed wax burns calmly, cleanly, and slowly. Additionally, it provides excellent scent diffusion.
- 100% plant-based and biodegradable: Just like soy, but without the downside of large-scale agriculture.

The choice of DIX DIX
Our choice for rapeseed wax stems from our desire not only to create luxury products but also to make conscious choices. We want to create candles that you can enjoy without feeling guilty towards yourself or the planet.
Although rapeseed wax is slightly higher in price than, for example, soy – due to its smaller scale and local production – for us, this is an investment in quality and the planet. And you can feel and see that in every candle we make.
